Parents throughout California have submitted thousands of objection letters to the possible release of this very sensitive data. While the judge reiterated that these notices are not a parental opt-out, the large number of objections the court has already received did indicate a high level of concern from the public.  As a result Judge Mueller, amended the e-protocol CDE is to follow.  She stated that no data from the CALPADs database will be transferred.  For more information please go to the CDE website.

Open Enrollment (Intra-Transfer) Requests for the 2016-2017 Year

If you would like to have your child attend a different elementary school for the 2016-2017 school year, you will need to complete an Open Enrollment (Intra-District Transfer) Request form. These forms can be picked up at the office of the school your child is currently attending, the district website, or at the front desk of the District OfficeSpace is always limited so it is extremely important to fill out and turn in the form as quickly as possible. All Open Enrollment (Intra-District Transfer) Requests should be turned in to the District Office between January 4, and January 29, 2016. Students who have been overflowed to a different school will need to complete an Open Enrollment (Intra-District Transfer) Request form if they wish to remain at their current school. If you have any questions, the school office should be able to help you. Thank you.

Registration Guidelines for 2016-2017

Traffic Safety - seguridad vial

Newark Police Department will cite drivers whenever necessary to encourage compliance of traffic laws and to reinforce that safety of our children is a priority.

There have been multiple incidents endangering children even a child being struck and several near misses.  Please remember that children’s cognitive abilities are still developing and they lack training and experience in traffic safety.

Keys to avoid receiving a citation:

  • Drive Slow
  • Do not make illegal U-turns
  • Have car seats for children
  • Have seat belts on all passengers
  • Make a “full-stop” at stop signs

Putting our children at risk is not worth the few minutes you may save by rushing and breaking these suggestions.  Newark Unified School District and the Newark Police Department want to keep everyone safe.

Safety reminders for children walking to school:

  • Walk, don’t run across the street
  • Look left, look right and left again
  • Obey Walk/Wait signals
  • Do not cross at mid-block locations
  • Use crosswalks

Safety reminders for children biking to school:

  • Always wear a properly fastened and fitted helmet
  • Obey all traffic laws
  • Ride in the same direction as motor vehicles
  • Check traffic when changing lanes, crossing streets or turning
  • Use hand signals

Measles Immunizations

The CDC has reported an outbreak of measles in the country currently involving 17 states. Alameda County alone has 6 confirmed cases of measles, and additional cases of measles are likely to occur. Newark Unified School District would like to take this opportunity to provide some information about measles and how to protect our community.

Child Care for Newark Families

We have different options for parents to enroll their children; from kindergarten to 6th grade, from prepaid drop off (twice monthly maximum) to 6, 12, 20, and 30 hours weekly with 1 hour in the morning. We also have alternative payment program referral contact information from 4C’s, Child Care Links, and Child, Family and Community Services.

We have safe classrooms offering your children the opportunity to do their home work, play, and socialize with other friends, eat healthy snacks, and be relaxed after a long day of school.

We are always looking for more families to serve in our Newark Community! Please see the flier for more information:
